Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.

Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Officials report preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human blood.

"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

Local authorities said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.

An important official commented the attack left him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
